Nicolas & Carla Bruni Sarkozy Take to the Paris Polls

Shuffling through a large mob of citizens, journalists and photographers, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, arrived at the Lycee de la Fontaine in Paris to vote for the first round of the Presidential election on Sunday (April 22).

The French-Italian beauty and her politician hubby looked professional while casting their votes along with the millions of other French citizens - as the Interior Ministry tells that 70.6 percent of France's 44-million-plus eligible voters had put their ballots in before noon.

This first round of voting will narrow down the ten current candidates to two, as the final pair will face off in a May 6 runoff. Earlier polls are showing that conservative Sarkozy and Socialist Francois Hollande are likely to be the two finalists, however, citizen's worry that Sarkozy's flashy style may not be what the country needs right now.

Sarkozy's competitor, Hollande, spoke with press after he voted, saying, "This is an election that will weigh on the future of Europe. That's why many people are watching us, they're wondering not so much what the winner's name will be, but especially what policies will follow." Hollande also added, " I am in a competition in which I must give new breath of life to my country and a new commitment to Europe."

Voting started Saturday and, according to recent poll results, the economy and a near 10 percent unemployment rate are among the top concerns.
